Dialog Tinto 2018 voted best wine of Algarve at CVA Algarve Wine Competition
Dialog Tinto 2018, produced by Estômbar winery Quinta dos Vales, has been voted the ‘Best Wine of the Algarve’ at the 2024 edition of the Algarve Wine Competition.
The 2018 red, made from Alicante Bouschet grapes which Quinta dos Vales explains are known for their deep colour, rich flavours, and full-bodied profile, was the only wine in the contest to receive the coveted Grand Gold Medal.
“We are immensely proud that Dialog Alicante Bouschet has been recognised as the Best Wine in the Algarve for 2024,” said Karl Heinz Stock, owner of Quinta dos Vales. “This award is a testament to the dedication and passion of our team. It affirms our commitment to crafting exceptional wines that embody the unique qualities and potential of the Algarve region.“
The 16th edition of the Algarve Wine Competition took place on May 24 at the São José convent in Lagoa, organised by the Algarve Wine Commission (CVA) with the support of the Municipal Council of Lagoa.
A total of 117 Algarve wines were tasted, including white, rosé, and red wines of “excellent quality” from 32 producers, says the CVA.
Thirty-eight wines received medals: 27 Silver Medals, 10 Gold Medals, and the sole Grand Gold Medal.
The results of the contest were announced on May 31 in a ceremony held at the Clubhouse Pestana Vale da Pinta in Carvoeiro, bringing together several producers and entities.
“The Algarve Wine Contest aims to award prizes to bottled wines from the Algarve. The goal is to stimulate the production of quality wines and promote the best wines produced in the Algarve region,” says the CVA in a statement.
The full list of awarded wines can be found on the wine commission’s website.
Second Grand Gold Medal for Quinta dos Vales since May
Earlier last month, Quinta dos Vales had already celebrated another major accolade. The wine estate’s DUO Red 2018 – described by Quinta dos Vales as a “masterful blend that showcases the richness and complexity of Algarve’s terroir” by combining the best of two typically Portuguese grape varieties (Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca) – received a Grand Gold Medal at the Concurso Cidades do Vinho – Portugal.
The competition is one of the most esteemed in the country, attracting a panel of distinguished judges and an array of entries from across Portugal’s diverse wine regions.
“The Grande Ouro Medal is a testament to the superior quality and craftsmanship embodied in the DUO Red 2018,” said Quinta dos Vales, with Kark Heinz Stock adding: “We are deeply honoured to receive this Grande Ouro Medal award for our DUO Red 2018. This reinforces our commitment to producing wines that reflect the unique character of our region.”
