Europe’s passion for Art

If you like art, you’ve come to the right continent: Europe has some of the best collections in the world, with pieces from every century and medium. Whether you prefer medieval tapestries or the most recent immersive installation, there are showcase exhibitions and major retrospectives on beloved old masters as well as first shows from exciting up-and-coming talent.

Portugal is one of the must-visit countries in Europe not only for its beaches and wonderful weather but also for its amazing art and culture. Manueline art, tiles and fado are unique expressions and genuine symbols of the Portuguese, but also a contribution to World Heritage. There are 24 such classifications by UNESCO in Portugal, including monuments, landscapes and intangible heritage.

By choosing a region, an itinerary or a specific theme, you can discover a unique heritage and different landscapes, all within a short distance, which still retain the authenticity of local customs. Moreover, your tour will be complemented to perfection by the traditional cuisine and the customary hospitality in rural accommodation.

Quinta dos Vales’ Art

Like wine, art is developed with heart, care and precision. As art and wine have always formed a close symbiosis it was obvious to Quinta dos Vales that these cultural aspects had to be brought together. Karl Heinz Stock, owner and developer of the famous Wine Estate, has long been an adventurous entrepreneur but as a side interest always been active in sculpturing. He found the vineyards to be a perfect combination for exhibiting his extraordinary and sometimes provoking art pieces, while simultaneously creating attention for his wine venture.

That together with his passion for wine resulted in what is currently Quinta dos Vales – an absolutely unique wine estate with hundreds of colourful sculptures in an open-air exhibition. The ideas behind the sculptural work are the same which drive the evolution of wine: both are linked to the traditional but also explore new experiences, limits and directions.

Most of the art pieces were already part of wandering exhibitions, on display across Europe. These included the installations of Graces, the Elephant Tree, Reunion of the Bulls, Dance of the Bears and Passion. You can visit the Estate and roam around freely while enjoying the beautiful weather, tasting delicious wines and admiring the beautiful sculptures that surround the gardens.

A unique open-air art exhibition awaits your visit at Quinta dos Vales Wine Estate
